Music : SNEZ goes Outback - Gypsy Soul Tour Continues
Sydney’s multi-award winning artist and an inspiring talent in the independent music scene, SNEZ has never been afraid to put her heart on her sleeve when it comes to her live performances and her songwriting. Celebrating 8 months of success off the back of her debut album ‘Gypsy Soul’ released by Regal Records/MGM, Snez says ‘It’s my wildest dream come true to be able to travel around Australia and share my songs with people who want to listen and who are looking for new music’.
Leaving her accolades and awards aside, SNEZ has had a huge year so far. February, March and April had her traveling up and down the East Coast of Australia with her partner in crime, co-writer, guitarist and producer Stewart Peters. ‘It was so inspiring, so we decided half way through the east coast tour that we wanted to go to Broome and all the outback towns between Sydney and Broome’. So they’re both packing their world into a van for 3 months over Winter, and like gypsies they’ll trek from town to town sharing their songs and tales of love, loss, spirituality and ... traveling, lots of travelling.
"I was a late starter with my music; I had a lot of catching up to do once I realized that this is what I wanted to do" Snez says. Her late arrival on the music scene hasn’t in the least hindered her enthusiasm or plans to be a successful touring and recording artist. ‘I woke up one morning in my mid-twenties and decided …I want to be a singer, it was as simple as that’.
Snez’s songs seem to evoke a strong emotional response in listeners, whether it be live or recorded, with songs that convey a youthful naivety as well as deep darkness. “The songs from Gypsy soul are a collection of some of my most vulnerable songs” SNEZ admits "... it felt as scary as it felt wonderful to release the album.” There is a powerful, open honesty in such tracks as “Life is so Good" and also "Daddy”, (which is a painful heart wrenching love song to her dad), featuring Snez’s raw delicate vocals over piano and cello.
One of the songs she is most proud of is “Never Grow Old” or 'the Peter Pan song' as it’s known amongst her fans. An acoustic classical guitar ballad also written with Stewart, a man of many talents in his own right. Surprisingly, Stewart cut his production teeth with the Australian rock producing legends Vanda & Young (AC/DC, Rose tattoo, Flash n the Pan, Choirboys, The Angels and of course The Easybeats) at Alberts Productions during the '80's. Stewart has since moved into a more comfortable (for him) acoustic/ adult pop genre and has had continuing success as a writer/ producer with various artists
"With Stewart, we just connect. He understands my soul and my songs and that’s why we work so well together." Snez muses. "He gets it ... he gets me. It's been a really wonderful partnership" Snez affirms.
SNEZ feels she has achieved exactly what she wanted to with this album's mix of sad and thoughtful songs, beautiful sweet love songs and fun, upbeat, Latin flavored tracks. “It feels so rewarding to see people not just emoting and releasing all that energy, but also realising that life is a huge, wonderful experience: touch it and taste it….enjoy life! It’s meant to be easy…I believe ... I hope!"
