Comedy : Wil Anderson is Territory-bound
The host of ABC TV’s The Gruen Transfer, Australian comedian Wil Anderson, is back, live on stage taking his newest comedy show Wilosophy around the globe in sold out performances from Melbourne to Montreal.

Wil is a stand up first and foremost, touring Australia and the world at every opportunity, performing more than a hundred shows a year. His stand up is a densely written, high-speed ride though one of the most wonderful comedic imaginations in the country. Politics, pop and the banal come together in a Wil Anderson routine, always delivered with more conviction and enthusiasm than any man’s vocal chords can take.

Wil is one of Australia's highest profile comedians having hosted hit shows the Gruen Transfer and The Glasshouse. The Territory Regional Weekly spoke to Wil who was in Los Angeles at the time performing shows in the US.

We started by asking Wil. Should we call you Wil or
Ando the Comedy Commando.
Wil said "Either one will be fine. Unfrotunately that Ando the Comedy Commando thing never caught on. Maybe it sounds to much like Ahn Do and people get confused."

We asked about the success of the Gruen Transfer and if hes saw the irony of the show being a success on a non commercial  broadcaster. Wil said "The thing is, I don't really think the show would be a success if it was on a commercial network. If people had to see us criticise and take apart ads, then they had to sit through ads during the break I dont think that it would work as well."

We asked Wil if he was amazed at how effective and clever some of the ads could be. Wil said "Definitely. Particluarly for the pitch segment. I go to great lengths to try to come up with things which are impossible to sell like Child Slavery, Whale Meat and Invading New Zealand.

Despite the fact that I think I have come up with stuff that is really hard to sell these guys come up with these amazing ads.  There are some really clever people in the industry. Hopefully they will use their talents for good an not evil."

We asked if he was on Shannon Noll's Christmas List. Wil said "Believe it or not Shannon and I are friends these days. As bizarre as it may seem I haven't got any enemies. It seems to be other shows at the moment that are upsetting people and grabbing all the attention .

Maybe I need to paint my place black and do a Jackson Jive segment. Or do some Make a Realistic Wish jokes."

We said to Wil you always seem to be up for your live shows. Are there times when it is hard to get motivated.Wil said "Not really. You know that 1000 peole have paid their money and have made the effort to come out an see you, so you need to make the show worth their effort. There are also plenty of things that you could be doing that are far worse than performing live comedy."

We asked if Wil had any plans while he was in Darwin apart from the live show. Wil said "I will probably just do what the locals do. Drive my car really fast while performing a sexual act and have a crash while chasing a crocodile."

We asked if Wil ahd thought about doing a show with Daryl Sommers and the Chaser Boys so they could all get canned at once. Wil said  "That is a great idea. That way people could send in text messages and emails an save a lot of time by complaining about all of us at the same time."

Wil Anderson  will be performing his Wilosophy Show at the Darwin Entertainment Centre Playhouse at 6:00pm Sunday 29th November 2009 and at the Araluen Art Centre on Saturday the 28th of November.

Wil Anderson alias Ando the Comedy Commando. Wil will be performing in Darwin and Alice Springs. Wil says he loves coming to the Territory as it is somehwere he doesn't look out of place wearing thongs.
